Summary: Jackson County School District is one of the school districts eligible to apply for the funds available through the Expanding Access to Mental Health and Telehealth Student Services in Florida Public Schools program. The program was made available through Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES), and the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. Jackson County School District has applied to receive funding for the maximum allowed amount of $227,906.00 to expand mental health and telehealth services provided to our students. The grant application was due by October 15, 2020, so the determination has not been made at this time, as to whether the district has been approved to receive these additional funds. If awarded funds through this program, Jackson County School District plans to hire two additional school-based mental health counselors to enhance access to mental health and telehealth services. In addition, Jackson County School District plans to partner with Let’s Talk Interactive to provide additional telehealth platform software access, which are services that are not covered by existing resources. The funds will allow us to enhance the districts’ ability to serve students to further support student mental health needs.
